Beating COVID-19 in developing countries

Field Ready

We've been responding to the terrifying COVID-19 pandemic with efforts across the globe these past weeks, currently helping to produce and distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) and needed sanitation equipment with our partners on three continents and the Pacific islands.

Many developing countries are just starting to feel the COVID-19 pressure - and these fragile places don't have the healthcare, sanitation or distribution infrastructure or support to stem the pandemic's spread.

The Conversation, an online academic and research newsletter with 18 million readers, recently spotlighted five ways that collective intelligence systems can beat the pandemic - and noted that Field Ready's pioneering approach to localizing production of humanitarian supplies is one of them.

We agree with the authors: a successful COVID-19 response could, they said, "incorporate ideas such as these and tap into the dynamism of the open-source design and engineering communities."

And we'll keep on doing it. "We're definitely seeing the impact of our work as we make thousands of urgently needed items in response COVID-19," said Eric James, Ph.D., Field Ready's executive director.
