Baby Warmer Bracket Repair

Baby warmers are essential to maintain infants body temperature and to keep them safe and secure. They are an expensive item which can be rendered useless if key parts are broken.

At a hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal there were many baby beds with corner brackets that were broken. The hospital was unable to simply order new corners because the baby warmer was no longer in production. As a result, hospital workers improvised a design to try and fix the broken corners, but due to the complex nature were unable to create a successful replacement part. The replacement parts were improvised with wood and metal, which was dangerous and unhygienic.

Broken bracket

Field Ready measured the original bracket and made a prototype, while also including an improvement to the original part based on user feedback. The Field Ready version has a slightly curved outer edge. This edge is thicker and stronger, making it less likely to break.

This new design received positive feedback, and the new design is far better than the improvised solution the hospital initially created. Now, the hospital has replacement brackets that not only eliminate a supply chain nightmare but also ensure that infant can rest safely in the hospital.
