Nepal: One Year On

The first anniversary of the Nepal earthquake has come quickly. On April 25th last year, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Kathmandu which was followed, on May 12th, by a second earthquake that reached a 7.3-magnitude. These killed nearly 9,000 people and left millions of Nepalese in need of new homes.

Now, the country is working its way through the difficult task of reconstruction. Field Ready took the strategic decision to hold off in the immediate aftermath so as to focus on this longer-term effort. Using funds raised separately from the $4.1 billion pledged by international donors, Field Ready is finding small but important ways to help repair medical and WASH equipment, develop novel solutions to manufacturing needs (see our Design Challenges page) and train Nepalese in skills such as design and 3D printing.
