Field Ready is pleased to have attended the launch of the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP). The AHP is a five-year AUD $50 million commitment from the Australian Government to support humanitarian efforts through trusted NGO partners. This aid will mainly be delivered in the Pacific.
Minister Bishop, Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke to the enterprise stating, “Under the Partnership, which is worth $50 million over five years, we will work with six NGOs – Care, Caritas, Oxfam Australia, Plan International, Save the Children and World Vision – to help increase the capacity of local organizations and communities to prepare for and manage crises.” As one of the consortium partners of World Vision, Field Ready will work in collaboration to respond to global crisis through our innovative methods.
Field Ready is conducting assessments of the needs and opportunities for making humanitarian items on demand and in-situ as we start preparing for future responses under this program. We expect to enhance our ‘RED Team’ cadre of humanitarian makers in the Pacific and Australia, and would encourage makers, designers and manufacturing engineers to get in touch with us if they are interested in getting involved.
Field Ready is keen to expand the reach of our work. Our Executive Director, Dr. Eric James, speaks to Field Ready’s eagerness to partake in this initiative, “The Pacific region faces a high risk of hazards such as cyclones and some very significant logistical challenges – with thousands of islands spread out over vast distances. There is significant potential for Field Ready’s innovations in local manufacturing to have a positive impact in preparing for, surviving and responding to these hazards. We are delighted to be part of the consortium being led by World Vision Australia, especially after our very successful and ongoing partnership in response to the Nepal earthquakes of 2015.”
Through these partnerships and the ongoing support of the Australian government, we are eager to see the lives that we can impact in the Pacific region. Under the AHP, Field Ready will work in Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea.
